Emmys forgot to say 'spoiler alert' and now the internet is furious!

The 65th Emmy Awards have left people on the internet furious after they aired a spoiler-filled montage of all the series that recently ended.

The awards, without a warning, aired spoiler montage of Parks and Recreation, Mad Men, Glee, Boardwalk Empire, Sons Of Anarchy and ruined anything fans had saved on Netflix to watch, E!Online reports.

As expected, there was a total outburst on social media because of the montage.

Comedian Ellen DeGeneres took to twitter, saying, "Thanks #Emmys. I had DVRed all of those shows."

Journalist Jake Tapper said, "Kind of astounding that given the new business model of TV, #Emmys would run a spoiler-a-bration. Ok now I won't binge order [Fill in blank]."

"The #Emmys just set the land-speed record for most spoilers per minute," Entertainment Weekly's Dalton Ross posted on twitter.

When host Andy Samberg returned after the montage, he put his spin on it - “Welcome back to the spoiler awards. I guess everyone on every show died.”

We know Andy, but it still spoiled it all!

Patel quota stir: Will the new crop of leaders change Gujarat's political scenario?

$
0
0

The quota stir by Patels has led to the emergence of new leaders on the political scene of Gujarat, posing a threat to the established leadership of the ruling BJP and main opposition Congress.

In the last three months, the Patel reservation stir has brought to fore leaders like 22-year-old Hardik Patel, who is spearheading the agitation for OBC quota of his community, OBC youth leader Alpesh Thakor and also Sardar Patel Group (SPG) leader Lalji Patel, who had originally started the Patel quota movement about a year back. They have challenged the established leadership and shaken up the political equations of last 25 years.

The Patels, one of the biggest communities in the state which had been an ardent supporter of the BJP, now on the call of their leaders Hardik and Lalji, are disrupting the party and government functions. The Patel-dominant villages have banned the entry of politicians in their societies and their leaders are pressing the community members to use NOTA (none of the above) option while voting in the forthcoming civic polls. "It will be difficult for the BJP in the upcoming civic polls," Hardik has cautioned, while adding that he has asked his community members to use the NOTA option.

Alpesh Thakor, the 38-year-old convener of 'OBC Ekta Manch', has been uniting the Other Backward class communities against Patels' quota demand by organising public meetings in different parts of state. The 'OBC Ekta Manch' is an umbrella body of the 146 communities in Gujarat that was formed after Patels raised the demand for inclusion in the OBC fold. Thakor has also warned that if the demand of Patel community is met, they will throw the BJP government out of power even before the 2017 polls.

"Patels are just 1.5 crores, while the OBC population in the state is 3.5 crores. If they will give reservation from our share to Patels then we will not allow this government to complete it's turn," Thakor told PTI. Another Patel leader who has gained prominence is SPG head Lalji Patel, who after disassociating himself from Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti last month owing to differences, recently joined hands with PAAS head Hardik.
Lalji (in his 40s) has asked his community people in the US to demonstrate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his upcoming visit there.

He also called for "economic non-cooperation," after which Patels recently started withdrawing money from banks.

The Congress and the BJP, the two main political parties in the state, are seemingly clueless on how to deal with this fast-paced emergence of young leaders on Gujarat's political horizon. Although initially the state government indicated that it was against the demand of reservation by the Patels citing Constitutional provisions and Supreme Court judgement, yet later as the quota stir intensified it held discussions with the agitating community. However, the first round of discussions failed after which Chief Minister Anandiben Patel hit out at Hardik for taking the state towards class conflict and warned that law will take its own course if they resort to violence. However, the BJP leaders are reluctant to go for any public function due to the fear of Patel community protest.

The party's 'Vijay Vishwas' public meetings ahead of the local body polls were postponed apparently due to this reason. On the other hand, the main opposition Congress, which had earlier condemned the alleged police atrocities against the agitating Patel community members, has not made its stand clear as to whether it is for or against the Patel quota reservation.

The party fears that if it supports it, the OBCs will get angry and if it goes against the Patels, who seem to be alienated from the BJP now, might not turn to them. "We are not the ruling party, we will spell our stand on the agitation for reservation at an appropriate time," Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela said.

Similarities between Aarushi and Sheena murder cases leave ‘Talvar’ makers baffled!

The newest development in the Sheena Bora murder case leave makers of Talvar surprised at the level of similarities between both the cases. With the Maharashtra government handing over the investigations of the Sheena Bora murder case to the Central Bureau of investigations, a move that had earlier been taken by the Delhi Police during the Aarushi Talwar murder case, yet another similarity comes to light.

Not only are the series of events identical, but the time spans related to the developments in both the cases are equal. Both the cases were transferred to the CBI within the same time frame , which is 3 weeks. With a series of similarities between both the sensational murder cases, the makers of Talvar are left baffled while contemplating on the fate of the Sheena Bora murder case.

Talvar too has Irrfan Khan playing a CBI officer who has been ousted from his position following a sequence of events similar to the latest developments in the Sheena Bora murder case. It’s directed by Meghna Gulzar which is loosely based on the Aarushi Talwar murder case and has incorporated real life happenings of the case.

The film required the makers to study the case facts of the Noida double murder case in depth and  developments of the Sheena Bora murder case have led to the makers linking striking similarities between both the murder cases.

Talvar is set to showcase to the audiences an unbiased film detailing three different point of views relating to the Aarushi Talwar murder case on the 2nd of October.

Apple suffers first major security breach, removes infected App Store apps

Apple has reported its first sustained security breach on its iOS software platform.

According to the Verge, Apple has removed malware-infected apps from the App Store. The malware is known as XcodeGhost. It worked its way into several apps by convincing developers to use a counterfeit version of Xcode, which is the software used to create iOS and Mac apps.

Christine Monaghan, Apple spokesperson said that they have removed the apps from the App Store that they know have been created with this counterfeit software. They are working with the developers to make sure they are using the proper version of Xcode to rebuild their apps. The apps that were affected were Chinese messaging app WeChat, popular business card scanner CamCard and Chinese Uber rival Didi Chuxing.

According to the Security firm Palo Alto Networks, XcodeGhost was able to prompt fake phishing dialogs, open URLs and read and write clipboard data, leading the company to label it a 'very harmful and dangerous' piece of malware that has affected at least 39 apps. There is no evidence that any data theft has occurred yet or other harm as a result of the attack.

Ryan Olson of Palo Alto Networks said that the compromised version of Xcode came from a server in China, and may have been used because it was faster to download than the free, official version on Apple's App Store.

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a PIL seeking direction to the Centre to declassify confidential documents on Subhash Chandra Bose.

A bench comprising justices A R Dave and A K Goel, said, "Let the Ministry of Home Affairs and Principal Secretary, PMO, reply to the representation of the petitioner." At the outset, the bench gave two options to petitioner Snehasis Mukherjee that he should either go to the High Court or wait for the response of the government on the representations on the issue. Mukherjee has accused various past governments of not disclosing the facts in the case and said that "non-diclosure of such an information amounted to denial of fundamental right."

"Please do not (bring in the issue of) fundamental right everywhere," the bench said. The petitioner, meanwhile, referred to the recent disclosure of 64 confidential files by the West Bengal government and sought a direction to Centre for dispensation to follow the suit.

No phone signal in a disaster? Solar network 'in a box' to the rescue

$

Pakistani researchers have developed a portable, solar-powered mobile phone network for use in disasters like floods and earthquakes when regular communications are often disrupted.

Researchers at the Information Technology University (ITU) in Lahore, together with a team from the University of California, have developed a prototype "Rescue Base Station" (RBS) for Pakistan - the country's first emergency telecoms system that would work on normal cell phones. "When the RBS is installed in a disaster-struck area, people automatically start receiving its signals on their mobile phones. They can manually choose it and then call, send messages and even browse (internet) data free of charge," said Umar Saif, ITU vice chancellor and an adviser to the project.

The RBS is a lightweight, compact rectangular box fitted with an antenna, a signal amplifier and a battery, which can be carried easily and even dropped by helicopter in hard-to-reach disaster zones. It has a solar panel to charge the battery, to keep it working in places without electric power. An alternative communications system like this could help save lives when disasters strike by connecting survivors with rescue workers and government officials. The RBS has yet to be deployed on the ground, but the ITU expects it to be used in the next six to eight months in partnership with the National Disaster Management Authority and a local telecoms company.

Saif said the RBS signal can be received within a 3 km radius, and people in the area can easily register by sending their name, occupation, age and blood group to a special number. "This helps generate an automatic database of people in distress, and eventually helps both the rescue and relief teams and the victims," he said.

Pakistan has 116 million active cellular subscribers out of a total population of 185 million, according to official data.

Information on demand

Potential users of the RBS system can get the information they need in just a few seconds by sending a text message to specific numbers appearing on their mobile phone.

For example, if a person needs to contact a fire brigade, they text the words “occupation: firefighters” to the relevant number. They will then receive names and contact details for local firefighters in just a few seconds and can call for help, Saif said. Or if someone needs access to blood supplies, they send a message saying "blood group, B positive", for instance, and receive contact information for people nearby with that blood group, so they can ask for a donation.

Saif said RBS teams on the ground plan to collect information about disaster-affected people in a database, and pass this on to rescue teams, doctors and government departments that can provide assistance. “(They) can also send weather forecasts and disaster alerts to subscribers, and help them evacuate troubled areas,” said Ibrahim Ghaznavi, an ITU researcher and one of the RBS developers.

The RBS, which operates using open source software, offers all the features provided by regular cellphone companies, he added. Ghaznavi said it costs around $6,000 to develop an RBS, and the Pakistan prototype has been funded by a Google Faculty Research Award.

Tech innovation

The RBS team is now working with Endaga, a U.S.-based company that connects rural communities through small-scale independent cellular networks, and a local telecoms firm to commercialise the project, he added. The aim of the collaboration is to help phone companies keep their communications systems functioning in a disaster until their regular networks are restored.

Pakistan is a disaster-prone country, which needs $6 billion to $14 billion to help it adapt to climate change impacts, such as unusually heavy rains, droughts and melting glaciers, through to 2050, according to a 2011 study funded by the U.N. climate secretariat.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies developed a customised communications system called the Trilogy Emergency Response Application (TERA) in Haiti when it was struck by a massive earthquake in 2010. But that system could only send text messages to its subscribers on their mobile phones, unlike the RBS which allows users to call, send texts and even browse the web for free. Cutting-edge technologies like the RBS could help save more lives by delivering timely advice to disaster-hit people, said Pervaiz Amir, country director for the Pakistan Water Partnership.

“Local researchers should be encouraged to develop innovative solutions to help people in distress,” he said. But the RBS needs to be tested in the field under different conditions before being deployed on a wider scale in actual disaster zones, he added. Amir said the RBS could be useful for rescue and aid activities, especially in remote rural areas of Pakistan where natural disasters regularly disrupt poor communications systems

'Baahubali' bags its first award!

SS Rajamouli’s dream vehicle Baahubali hit theatres over two months back and ever since then, the film has been going really strong at the domestic as well as the international box office. But little did anyone apprehend that the film will also receive its first award in a short span of just two and half months. But like all possible records, Baahubali has achieved this feat too.

Baahubali won the Best Special Effects Award at the recently held NDTV Gadgets Guru Awards in Hyderabad. Applauded for its spectacular visual effects, Baahubali was a masterpiece in every frame of it. And it’s the splendid VFX that got them at par with Hollywood’s 300.

Rana Daggubati took the Award on behalf of the entire Baahubali team and he also joked about the film’s shoots. “We shot for over 320 days and the VFX took over thee and half years to be ready,” he smiled. “I and Prabhas have talked about it and we feel that we will only be doing Baahubali all our lives,” Rana joked on stage.

Nevertheless, the award is a well deserved one, given that Baahubali has set new benchmarks of filmmaking in the nation.

A junior engineer with Central Railway's CST terminus was grievously injured in a melee brought about by huge passenger crowds trying to enter the 12859 CST-Howrah Gitanjali Express early Monday morning.

The train leaves from platform 17 of CST at around 6am. The Railway Protection Force personnel had to be called in to control the crowds.

Speaking to dna, Sachin Bilode, senior divisional security commissioner, CR Mumbai division said junior engineer Amay Thatte was possibly hit by one of people in the crowd. Thatte was left with a gash on his forehead.

"There is confusion as to what has happened that left Thatte injured. There was massive crowding. Thatte has told railway police that he was possibly hit by some passenger. We are investigating" said Bilode.

The platform has several CCTV cameras and getting an idea on what happened wouldn't be difficult, CR officials told dna.

Indian IT companies among world's worst paymasters: survey

$

Indian IT companies are among the 10 worst paymasters in the world, says a survey. According to the study, a mid-level IT manager draws an average salary of $41,213 while its Swiss counterpart gets over four times more.

According to recruitment platform MyHiringClub.com's Worldwide IT Salary 2015 survey, India was ranked 7th on the list of lowest paymasters for information technology (IT) managers, down by one position from last year's.

While Indian IT managers drew an average salary of $41,213, Bulgaria topped the list with a meagre $25,680, followed by Vietnam and Thailand averaging at $30,938 and $34,423, respectively.

"The impact of outsourcing and off-shoring on IT roles in North America and Western Europe helps explain the pattern of global pay,"

MyHiringClub.com & FlikJobs.com CEO Rajesh Kumar said.

The list includes Indonesia at the fourth spot with average wages of $34,780, followed by the Philippines ($37,534), India ($41,213),

China ($42,689), Czech Republic ($43,219), and Argentina ($51,380).

"Lower-level roles are being moved to regions where talent is cheaper. The jobs that remain in Western Europe and the United States may be fewer in number, but are more demanding and complex. However, there is an increasing evidence of India's growing stature and presence in the high-end value chain, where cost advantages may not be the only drivers of future growth," Kumar added.

At the other end of the spectrum, when it comes to countries that pay out the best IT salaries, Switzerland again topped the list with an average annual remuneration of $1,71,465. The same job if taken in Belgium, second on the list, would fetch $1,52,430, the survey said.

Denmark came in at third on the best-paying list, with salary in the IT sector averaging at $1,38,920. The US and the UK were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, with average packages of $1,32,877 and $1,29,324, respectively.

"India remains one of the most favourite outsourcing destinations due to this low-cost factor, but the future might bring with itself a completely different scenario," the survey predicted.

The survey compared the total annual cash compensation and total remuneration information of the mid-career level for IT staff at 9,413 companies across 40 different countries between August 1 to August 31, 2015.

Comedy Modern Family, political drama House of Cards and American Horror Story: Freak Show were snubbed from the winners list at the 2015 Emmy Awards despite multiple nominations. Louie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Better Call Saul also failed to make it to the winners list.

House of Cards was unable to make the most of its 11 nods, with only Fantastic Four actor Reg E Cathey taking home the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama series. Apart from this, the show won two Emmys, both of which were awarded at the Creative Arts ceremony last week.

The fourth instalment of FX anthology series American Horror Story had 19 nominations, the second most for any show, but it managed to win only five awards, all of which were in technical categories handed out earlier.

Modern Family, which tied with Frasier for fifth consecutive best comedy series win last year, was up for a record sixth award in the category but lost to Veep. The show, which won 21 Emmys over the past five years, also failed to register a win in the best supporting actor (Ty Burrell) and supporting actress (Julie Bowen) categories. It won an award at Creative Arts ceremony.

Louie went home empty-handed. Freshmen series Better Call Saul, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Bloodline earned nominations but failed to take home any Emmy statuette.

The Emmys was not kind to shows that were up for awards for their final seasons as Parks and Recreation, Key & Peele, The Late Show With David Letterman and Sons of Anarchy were all left out of the winners list.
